Hello, Fellow Scholars!!
If you haven't yet begun to read "A Modest Proposal", I will warn you now it's the hardest piece of the summer...but it's probably the most interesting. It's a tad difficult in language because it was written in 1729. It was written by Jonathan Swift, the author of "Gulliver's Travels". It is a satire - look it up, if you aren't sure of the genre.
With satire, the object is to poke fun at a problem, or at a tradition, or at an established item - sort of like MAD or CRACKED magazine do today. Or MadTV, or Saturday Night Live.
After you read "A Modest Proposal", I just want you to post your reaction...we'll go from there.
