You really didn't think "A Modest Proposal" was funny? I think it's hysterical...as satire. If Swift were SERIOUS, that would be another matter!!!

I read the story before realizing it was a satire. I was horrified! Altough I've got to hand it to the author, he did present his case really well. I just couldn't believe someone would put that much thought into cannibalism. Yuck! I also loved the line "...and besides, it is not improbable that some scrupulous people might be apt to censure such a practice, (although indeed very unjustly) as a little bordering upon cruelty..." Hmmm... just a little cruel, huh?
